Include a Charity is a collaboration of charities, covering a range of causes and aspects of our community, from medical research, education, animal welfare, the environment, the arts and more. Paul Evans, Partner in our Estate Planning, Trusts, Probate and Estate Litigation team regular provides pro bono services to this charity. The goal of the collaboration is to encourage more people to leave a gift in their Will, increasing the funds invested in the charitable sector and thereby increasing the positive impact these organisations have on our society.
St Lucy’s is a Catholic school in the Dominican tradition for students with disabilities. Makinson d’Apice is proud to support the school’s Bursary Program which enables the school to continue to provide their students with education and facilities.
Makinson d’Apice is a long standing supporter of the Blue Ribbon Ball that raises funds for the NSW Police Legacy who supports the wider police family through the provision of meaningful benefits, services and advocacy.
Our Estate Planning, Trusts, Probate and Estate Litigation team has assisted numerous charity organisations by preparing Wills for their members and contacts including, The Salvation Army, The Children’s Cancer Institute, The Australian Cancer Research Foundation and Wesley Mission.
Partners and lawyers from Makinson d’Apice have taken part in the University of Notre Dame Australia School of Law Mentoring Program for a number of years.
During the course of the program, our lawyers meet individually with the students and also invite them to our offices and to accompany us to court. Many of the students mentored through the program have since joined the firm and are valued colleagues.
Makinson d’Apice also sponsors a number of prizes at the law school to support and encourage the next generation of lawyers.
The Makinson d’Apice Environmental Committee works to implement initiatives at our firm to minimise our impact on the environment. We have a formal Environmental Policy which sets out best practice in sustainability at all levels of our business. We have implemented a comprehensive recycling system across the firm and are working on initiatives to ensure sustainable practices in our procurement and to monitor and reduce our energy and paper use.
Ella Alexander, head of our Pro Bono and CSR Program and a member of the Environmental Committee, contributed to The Australian Pro Bono Centre’s Pro Bono Guide to the Climate Crisis, released in September 2020. The guide showcases the ways in which law firms can assist with tackling climate change, click here to access the Guide.
